ANDfØLK, is the enigmatic duo behind a unique fusion of house music, folk tales, and digitized animations. With close to 100K followers on Spotify, ÅNDfØLK’s future plans include psychedelic live shows that are a cross between Alice In Wonderland and Day Zero, involving a motley crew of digitalised intergalactic characters, copal rituals and banging tunes to create a live experience that touches all the senses. Their intentions are to introduce them to the world over the next few years. ÅNDfØLK’s decision to go down the anonymous route was clear from the word go.
The duo talks to SIX AM about their motivation for remaining anonymous as artists, their contrasting backgrounds in production and DJing, and their live show experience.
Hi ÅNDfØLK thanks so much for talking to SIX AM, how are you both doing?
Great thanks, we didn’t get away this summer as much as we wanted as we’ve spent most of it in the studio, so there’s lots of new music coming!
How did ÅNDfØLK's passion for house music, folk tales, and animations come together to influence your creative direction and mystique in the music industry?
Illegal raves, where liberal culture is at the forefront, a love of the stories these events create, and a very vivid imagination, possibly assisted ;)
What were the main motivations behind your decision to remain anonymous as artists while using “digitized animations” and not “human aesthetics” (as you’ve said in prior interviews)? What exactly do you mean by human aesthetics and why did you decide not to go this route with this project?
Human connection and interaction is vital but booking gigs and selling out parties based on ‘aesthetics’ is not what we’re about. The music, event and the arts should be the protagonists. We don’t love events that seem focused around a desire to be “seen”. By remaining anonymous, we can lose and immerse ourselves whichever side of the decks we are.
Can you share some insights into the creative process of ÅNDfØLK? How does your contrasting personalities and backgrounds in production and DJing contribute to your melodic compositions and overall direction in electronic music?
It is about sitting together, downloading our individual life’s experiences and converting them to sound! Coming from different backgrounds and having different skill sets gives us a more varied and eclectic output.
You’re often known for creating tension and release within your music. Why was this an important aspect of your sound? Is this a representation of your contrasting personalities as mentioned earlier?
For the love of drops! Music is like life, sometimes it’s nice to let go!
The goal for ÅNDfØLK's live shows is to create an immersive experience for your audience. Was that always your intention when starting this project? What made you decide to make your shows more than just a musical journey and performance?
Yes, it’s always been our intention to create an immersive experience. We wanted to share our experiences, not just our music with our audiences. We’re lucky enough to have been to some wonderful, unique events in our life which really transport you to another world for a moment in time, and anything we can do to keep that culture alive, we will.
With a significant following on Spotify and multiple successful releases, what sets you apart from other artists in the electronic music scene, and how do you plan to continue pushing creative boundaries?
We’re not sure how separated from other artists we are, ultimately we’re all just share the same common love of creativity. Why we hope to continuously make good music is our unwavering passion and love for what we do. That said, sometimes no matter how hard you try, you can make a shit tune. Being able to tell the difference is the real talent!
Thanks so much for speaking to our audience. Is there anything else you would like to share?
Thanks so much for having us, and yes - Our next release ‘Katanuki’ is out 22nd September! It’s a nice track to end summer with, hope you enjoy it! Much love, ÅNDfØLK x
