Hi T78 thanks for talking to us. To start off, you've had various aliases in addition to your T78 project. Are there are any plans to revive any of the previous aliases? Will T78 be the one that lasts through time?
I started the T78 project because I felt the desire to produce and play slower music as I had a history of almost 15 years in hard dance music. Techno has always been a genre that I have loved. But when I decided to approach production I realized that there were no tracks on the market that fully satisfied me and therefore the need to create my own style was practically automatic. still a DJ set of 78 is based almost exclusively on own productions. In the 90s when I was only a resident DJ and had few productions under my belt, my name was Manuel Es, then in 2002 I made my first production as Activator and began a career in hardstyle music that lasted for about 15 years. In the meantime I produced many other things with many other pseudonyms but at a certain point I had to focus all my energies on the most important projects: Activator (Hardstyle) which for a five-year period split into ACTI (Subground/Big room) and finally T78 ( Techno). It's difficult to say whether T78 will be the most long-lasting of all my projects also because recently I've started producing again also as Activator given the wave of hard techno that has invaded the scene and therefore I wanted to keep your stuff separate. T78 (peak-time techno) Activator (hard techno)
And Autektone? What is the idea behind it and how is the label developing?
The need to have my own label arose practically at the same time as the birth of the T78 brand, this was because some of the demos I had sent around from other labels had always been rejected with the same feedback: the music was too much for techno. At the beginning I was surprised by this answer because I was really trying to go in the opposite direction but which seemed to me to be the right one, that of evolution while it was as if the whole techno scene wanted by mutual agreement to keep the music standardized and quite simple in my opinion . I remember listening to many tracks and thinking to myself "this could easily have been produced in 1993". The problem is that it was 25 years later. For this reason, tired of wasting time sending demos around, I almost immediately decided to start with my own label even though I was well aware that the road would be long before reaching notoriety. The name might seem strange but with a very specific meaning I wanted to combine two words: the word techno and the word autochthonous, that is, that type of techno can only be found on this label. At the beginning I used my label as a vehicle to release my productions, I didn't yet have plans to involve other producers. then over time I started receiving demos and some of these had the right fees to be released on Autektone. At the moment I receive more than 50 demos weekly and fortunately among them there is always something that tickles my ear.

Could you tell us what you like most about producing and what you like most about being in the booth?
Let's start from the fact that I was born as a DJ but that I fell in love with production after I understood its mechanisms. The two things go hand in hand for me and are equally important and fundamental in the career of a DJ producer. for me the DJ who is just a DJ is an old thing. The DJ must be a producer and host evenings in which he proposes much of his music. Nowadays, with all the technology we have at our disposal, selecting the tracks and simply offering them to the public is quite easy, which is why I think the public should go and listen to those who offer at least 50% of their own music in their DJ set. When I'm in the studio and I'm creating, I always think about how the audience's reaction will be And vice versa when I'm on stage I find ideas Even just by looking at the audience's reaction on how I should set up a future track in the studio. so as I said before for me the two things are complementary, I wouldn't be able to do just one or just the other. I really like being in the studio and it makes me feel like I'm always on holiday because I love doing it so much that it doesn't feel like work. On the other hand, being on stage gives me that adrenaline that fuels my nature as a DJ. I like creating music but I also like sharing it, not only through portals but also live.
How would you describe the sound of "Another dimension" and what was the approach to this single?
It has that huge big room festival vibe spiced up with an hysteric 303 bassline. The kick slaps so hard and my 90's rave background influenced the breakdown. This is a typical T78 sound, even a deaf person would recognize it.
Thanks for talking to us! To close out, in January 2024 you have a Los Angeles and Las Vegas weekender, what do you like the most about these places and what are the best stages you have visited recently?
My USA debut just happened in November and it was amazing. I did two gigs, one in New York for Techno Brooklyn and one in Austin at Seismic. Both were great, the reaction from the public was really warm given that I was eagerly awaited and given the success. Now I’m really looking forward to Los Angeles and Vegas ‘cause I’ve heard that the public there is one of the hottest in the world. I’m more than ready to serve them my techno bombs!
