TCTS chats with 6AM about launching his new label TACTICS, refining his sound for 2025, and balancing creativity with club-ready energy.
Hi TCTS! Thanks for taking the time to chat with 6AM Group. How’s everything going?
Easy guys, thanks for having me!
For those who might not be familiar, you’ve had quite a journey in electronic music—from your early days with Greco-Roman and MTA Records to launching your new imprint, TACTICS. What made this the right time to create your own label, and what do you hope to accomplish with TACTICS? What would you say would be the overall sound and vibe of TACTICS’ releases?
It was actually those early releases on MTA and Greco Roman that really influenced this latest EP and the idea of doing a small body of work - It’s been a while since I’ve worked on an EP, I feel like they're done less these days, Spotify has made the game so singles based. I’ve done a distribution deal with Vydia/Gamma to make TACTICS, so that it can be a vehicle for me to pursue these kinds of projects alongside my regular label releases.
2024 saw you drop 10 releases spanning a wide spectrum of club sounds, but you’ve mentioned that 2025 is about sharpening your focus. Is there a specific sound or direction you feel is underrepresented in the current dance music scene that you’re eager to explore? Does this different approach to your productions also mean there’s a different approach on events and venues you play?
Last year was great, I got to work with loads of amazing labels and flex my production muscles in different directions. This year it's about dialling in to what I enjoy and find satisfying about producing music, and zeroing in on those sonics. There will always be a musicality to my records - but I want to find the balance, yes there will be vocals but I don’t want that to alienate people who don’t like things getting too poppy.
Your new single, Take Me (Favourite Place), kicks off your TACTICS launch and is part of a run of five new singles throughout 2025. Does this track set the tone for the entire series, or is each release going to explore a completely different facet of your sound? Is there an overarching story or concept tying these releases together, or is it more about capturing different moods and moments for the dancefloor?
Each of the record stands on its own, and explores a different tactic in approaching club music - some moments are heavier, some are more musical, some faster, some slower, but there’s the throughline of my sound and the intention of it belonging on the dancefloor. All the records were written around the same time, and influenced by parties, moments and memories from over the last year or so.
You've amassed over 150 million streams across your catalog—a huge milestone. When you look at that number do you ever feel pressure to replicate past successes, or does it motivate you to take even bigger creative risks? What do you think has been the key to achieving that level of reach?
The latter I think, and kind of what I meant before - trusting myself a bit more, taking a few risks, and trying not to overthink too much when it comes to the numbers. We’ve done some nice numbers for sure, but it's about looking forward and getting the music out, both my bits and the stuff I write for other people.
You’ve played everywhere from Printworks to Amnesia Ibiza. What are your personal favorite performance events/venues so far? Is there a venue or setting that you think brings out the best in your sets? Do you adapt your approach based on the space, or is it always about bringing a specific TCTS vibe, no matter where you play?
Amnesia is a special one, Ibiza is one of my favourite places on earth, and the terrace has got such a mythical status in dance music. I’ve been really lucky with the places music has taken me, from playing on a beach stage as the sun comes up over the ocean in Montenegro, to touring Asia, Australia etc it's all mad. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but a massive bucket list moment for me was Glastonbury, I truly believe that's the best party on earth. In terms of approach, I definitely put a lot of thought into each set and the venue or type of night, my place on the lineup etc. As much as your own set can be a journey, you’re also a part of a bigger lineup so you’ve got to get the vibe right so the night works as a whole.
Thanks again for taking the time to talk to our audience. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for having me! Just would love your followers to check out the EP as it drops over the next few months. The next single lands in March, its a collaboration with one of my favourite vocalists in dance music so I can’t wait to see what you think.
