TikTok Music, a streaming platform launched by its namesake video-sharing app, is shutting down.
Announced today, September 24th, via its website, TikTok Music said it would close in all regions on November 28th. Operating in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Mexico, the service (previously known as Resso) was considered a rival to major digital streaming providers (DSPs).
In a statement sent to reporters, Ole Obermann, global head of music business development at ByteDance (TikTok's parent company) said the social media tool will continue partnering with other DSPs. In 2023, TikTok unveiled a feature that allowed users to save songs discovered on the platform to popular DSPs like Amazon Music and Spotify.
Earlier this year, TikTok resolved its licensing dispute with Universal Music after the label pulled its catalogue from the app amid issues over royalty rates and AI-generated content.
