Josh Fabian, AKA TIMEKUBE is an American Techno Producer/DJ who was musically raised between Los Angeles, California and San Salvador, El Salvador. Curently based in the greater Los Angeles Area, he is an up-and-coming musician in the elctronic music scene in southern California. Energetic, melodic, boomy and dark, TIMEKUBE's productions reflect his love of "old school" rave synth sounds and drum machine patterns from the 90s and 2000s.
Influenced by a range of music around him from hip-hop to baroque to cumbia, these elements are always prominent in each and every track and have further inspired him to continue his incredible electric journey. Having had his music supported by Techno industry leaders such as Spartaque, and Amelie Lens to name a few, TIMEKUBE's music has reached the ears of many - locally as well as overseas. TIMEKUBE strives to push the sound of the past into the future through experimentation and exploration. His vision for the future is clear; it is to bring a colorful and high-energy sound to bring people to dance!
Today he talks with SIX AM on perseverance in the scene, techno, and family life!
Hi TIMEKUBE, thanks for talking to SIX AM how are you doing?
I’m doing so well! Thanks for having me on board for this Q&A. For those who don't know me, my name is Josh and I’m from the high desert area here in Southern California. I’m 31, work for the US government, happily married, father of one, and have THE deepest passion for techno and my hometown of Los Angeles. I have been releasing music under this alias since 2012 and have had great successes in the Electro House scene and now revived it recently to release my techno productions. I have a deep passion for helping out emerging artist and DJs with their career - it’s a difficult journey and I love to help new artists.
You’ve had a good amount of releases under your belt with some pretty notable labels such as Say What?, Kneaded Pains, and Funk ‘n’ Deep. What do you attribute to your success with your productions and having these labels want to release them?
I really think it all comes down to persistence… nothing comes easy. I think producers and DJs nowadays have to wear so many hats and forget to market ourselves and our craft. Sending out several emails were necessary but in a way that doesn’t annoy the A&R. This in itself is a skill that’s learned!
Additionally, all of my techno tracks were crafted with the dancefloor in mind. I kept it simple and to the point, and I think this has helped having massive success getting tracks signed.
You've been recognized for your unique sound in the techno scene. Could you describe your production process and how you maintain your distinct style while evolving as an artist?
I have shown my Ableton projects to my close friends and peers and they can’t help but laugh! I keep my project under 20 channels including the master. I am a “less is more” kinda guy and don’t have time to look for external things - what I’ve got in my sample bank in my laptop are the tools I use. I think my distinct sound has come from severely limiting my selection of sounds so I can recycle it over and over if that makes any sense. I may not be the greatest audio engineer…. But maybe I don’t want to be. I just want to make dope techno tracks with a punching groove.
For those that don’t know you are also a happy father as well. Balancing a career as a techno DJ and producer while managing family time can be challenging. Could you share some strategies or insights on how you manage these aspects of your life effectively?
Being a father of a boy (with a second one coming!) and managing an artist career is the best thing that has happened to me! I’ve developed a “don’t give a fuck” attitude about what anyone says. My art is my art and this is MY safe space.
If I could share some insight it would be this : don’t quit. LIMIT YOURSELF ON PURPOSE. Read that again. I love my family and my artist career and dedicate much time to both. Make your time work for you. If anyone wants more tips hit me up :)

You've had the opportunity to perform alongside renowned techno artists as well as perform for such promotions as RE/FORM and Lick ‘n’ Dip. Can you tell us about any particularly memorable experiences or collaborations that has influenced your music career?
I owe so much particularly to the 6AM crew down in Los Angeles. For those that don’t know me, I’m a producer and DJ in the San Bernardino area and I submitted a DJ mix at the last minute for the REFORM DJ contest hosted by 6AM last year. I was contacted by Marco and Jia shortly thereafter for a slot early in the night, and ever since then I am so lucky to have been on the up and up. A year later I have just been able to open for acts such as Dense&Pika, collaborated with major European artists (more on that soon!) and have had great successes getting my jacking techno played all across the world!
Can you share some insights into your upcoming releases as TIMEKUBE? What can fans expect in terms of sound and style from your upcoming music?
I have four confirmed releases next year - it’s gonna be so much fun! I’m really digging this jacking sound with a trippy twist to it so I hope partygoers and listeners like my music I’m putting out. Like I said earlier I’ve been limiting myself to few tools and it’s going to be raw, groovy, and funky.
With that said I’m working closely with Spanish artist Ramiro Lopez and his record label as well as another EP releasing on Kneaded Pains in March… keep an eye out!
Thanks so much for talking to us. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
First, if you like fast, jacking and raw techno please check out my tracks! It means a lot. Second, To all of the bedroom producers out there… don’t quit. You are valuable. Finish that track and send it to your favorite label. Network online and in person. You never know where it can take you :-)
