CARV is an enigmatic aritssti who describes himself as a "criminal and rough version of a human being showing its interoretation of the harder styles...". CARV talks to 6AM about his productions, his DJ career, the birth of his label Masked Rules, and his new EP released this week.

Hi CARV thanks for talking to 6AM how are you doing? To get it started, your mask is quite intriguing. Can you tell us the story behind it and why you choose to wear it? Can you tell us about the inspiration behind wearing it and how it influences your performances and music?

I wanted to let the music speak and therefore decided to let my identity out. The idea was to create a figure that always looks the same and expresses itself through its music. Of course, Angerfist was also an inspiration for this. I also had a lot of fun slipping into this role right from the start.

 

You’re described as “A criminal and rough version of a human being showing its interpretation of the harder styles”. Can you explain this concept in more detail? Specifically the “criminal” aspect of your artist identity.

Criminal & Rough Version is a description of what I am expressing. The criminal stands for the "breaking" of all musical "rules". The mixing of all stylistic directions. "Rough" stands for the general direction in which it goes. So I think it's clear to everyone that I love the harder styles and therefore I move in this environment.

 

Founding your own label, Masked Rules, is a significant achievement. What motivated you to start this label, and what vision do you have for its future?

The main reason why I founded the label was to have the opportunity to support artists that I appreciate. You also have the opportunity to offer young, talented artists a platform. I also think that there are far too many labels that are only interested in mass releases. We value respect for the individual work of each artist, which is why we only put out one release per month. This gives us enough time to concentrate on each release. My vision is to create a brand that stands for high quality music and respect that might one day fill stages.

 

You've just released a new EP. Can you tell us about the EP and what listeners can expect from it? What was the creative process behind it, and are there any tracks that you’re particularly excited for fans to hear?

Ruler Vibes is a track that is a combination of oldschool elements and neorave techno. It is very groovy but also has a certain hardness. This makes it a perfect fit for today's hard techno stages. The second track "Time To Feel" was created afterwards and should be the counterpart to the main track. That's why it's a bit harder and even has one or two rawstyle elements. The driving vibe of "Ruler Vibes" encourages you to tap along and won't let you sit still. For me, it's the perfect mix of positive vibes and heaviness. 

What has your journey been like as a DJ, producer, and label owner? Are there any standout moments, milestons or experiences you'd like to share?

In fact, great things happen every week. Like playing on big stages or producing new tracks. The most important thing for me in everything I do is being together. Meeting great people, making wonderful memories and creating something big. I will never lose the fun of putting a smile on people's faces with my music. As for touring, there are a lot of festivals and stages planned. I'm playing at the terminal v halloween festival, Teletech festival as well as for Verknipt and Blackworks, just to name a few. there's also another south america tour planned for the end of the year. 

On Masked Rules there will be more cool releases from THAM, Johannes Schuster, as well as Luna Fields and many more.

I'm also constantly working on new productions. Next up is a release on Verknipt records, as well as my rework of my most successful hit "Say My Name", on which I worked together with influencer DottyChu this time.
