YouTube Music has introduced a music recognition feature that allows users to hum into the app on Android and iOS to identify a track.
Initially teased last year, and available via Google since 2020, it has now been fully released, meaning users can tap the magnifying glass in the corner of the app, hum a song they have in their head into the app and it will return results based on the probability of the match. You can then click through and listen to the full song on YouTube Music. Users can also sing the song if you know the words, or even play it on an instrument. The feature builds on previously released tech from Google via a product called MusicLM that lets users generate music from either a text prompt or a hum.
YouTube Music is also experimenting with more AI and music recognition tools, including a new feature coming to Premium subscribers in the US that lets you create custom radio stations by verbally describing the kind of music you’d like to hear.
While the new hum, sing or play feature is available on iOS and Android only for now, YouTube says they’ll be rolling it out to all users soon.
Earlier this month (July), we revealed that YouTube is reportedly in talks with several major labels over an AI music licensing deal that could offer one-off payments in exchange for access to their music.
Lats year, YouTube launched an experimental new AI feature called Dream Track. The new platform, powered by a new model called Lyria, allows certain users to create pieces of music using AI voice clones of famous artists.
