Chicago-based DJ and producer Avi Sic is making waves with her latest single, ‘Seat Back’, a high-energy Bass House track built for dance floors and late-night sets. Known for her distinctive production style, Avi Sic continues to refine her signature sound, blending raw low-end power with an infectious sense of groove and attitude, ‘Seat Back’ showcases why she’s a rising force in the electronic music scene.
Hi, Avi! How are you?
I’m doing awesome. Thanks for having me! It’s a huge moment right now with this release and Episode 200 of my radio show, so I’m feeling grateful and fired up.
What was the initial spark or moment that inspired “Seat Back”?
It came from grinding nonstop in the industry. It’s that moment when you finally get to sit back, exhale, and look ahead to whatever adventure is next. It’s freedom. It’s anticipation. It’s lift-off. I wanted to capture that exact feeling of taking off into something new, which is fitting, because this record is a new journey for me too.
How does “Seat Back” fit into your artistic evolution? Is it something new, a continuation, or a new experiment?
This one is huge for me because it is my first ever self-release with Create Music Group. A lot of labels were not willing to take the risk because it is heavier, different, and does not fit into a neat box, but I believed in it. I had been road testing it in my live sets and the reaction was massive. Instead of waiting for approval, I said this is who I am and I am proud to share it with my fans. This track is more ‘me’ than almost anything I've released so far in my career.
What was the first element of the track you built, melody, drums, vocal idea, or something else?
The bass. That dark and gritty low end set the entire tone. Once that groove locked in, the rest of the track followed its attitude.
Can you walk us through the techniques and tools you used to create the track?
Serum gave me a lot of the main synth and bass textures with extra distortion layers for weight. ShaperBox and automation added movement. Decapitator is a favorite of mine. Compression, saturation, and stereo imaging to make sure it hits the way I want it to in the club.
Were there any unusual plugins, instruments, or sound-design techniques used in the track?
I went pretty wild with sound design on this one. I created a bunch of weird textures in Serum, bounced them out as audio, then kept pushing the limits with processing until they felt alive. The vocal chop is treated like another instrument. I pitched and filtered it, and gave it this shaky, almost glitched character that I really dig. I also used a lot of transient shaping on the percussion, so it stays punchy without crowding the mix. There were a ton of tiny decisions that add up to a big impact in the final energy of the track.
Did “Seat Back” go through major changes from the first draft to the final master? Any big pivots?
Yes. The original drop did not go hard enough. If I am not physically moving when I test it live, then it is back to work. I rebuilt the energy until it smacked the way I needed it to. Then after shopping it for a while, I made a more Tech House friendly version of it and some labels were into it, but I couldn’t shake my love for the Bass House version. It’s just so loud and crazy. It was perfect the first time, so I went with my gut.
How would you describe your signature sound, and how does ‘Seat Back’ reflect it?
I call my sound Hybrid House. It lives in house BPMs, but anything goes from there. I love pulling inspiration from all corners of Dance music and bending the rules. Heavy bass. Tech influences. Unexpected textures. A little chaos in the right places. It is all about energy and movement. “Seat Back” is a perfect example. It hits hard, keeps the groove locked, and blends genres in a way that feels fresh and unpredictable. It is built for the dance floor and built to surprise you.
What do you hope fans pick up on during their first listen or their tenth?
On the first listen, the drop grabs you. On the tenth listen, I hope fans notice the details that make it feel alive each time. There is a lot of subtle motion and texture that keeps the record exciting. And of course, a bunch of weird and kind of stupid sounds, but they work for me haha.
Can you tell us about any more of your upcoming releases? What can fans expect to hear next?
My radio show Late Checkout just hit its 200th episode with Fedde Le Grand, and MORTEN is next, so the momentum is real. I have a run of releases locked in for 2026 that I am very excited about. My next track is on Farris Wheel, and I have new music coming with both Hysteria and Hexagon at the top of the year. I am also continuing to self-release records that push my Hybrid House sound even further. “Seat Back” marks a new chapter where I take full control of what I create and when I share it, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear what is coming next. I might have a few other self-releases in the mix as well.
