Hi BINGEWATCH! Thanks for talking to 6AM how are you doing?
Hey! You already know what time it is, living the dream. Happy to be chatting with you!
At the time of this interview you would have released ‘Bingetape Vol. 5,’ features a reimagined version of 21 Savage & J. Cole’s hit “ALOT.” What inspired you to blend house and hip hop for this track, and how do you feel it represents your musical evolution?
I made the instrumental first and when I was thinking about an acapella to add to it I wanted to choose something polarizing to house music. That's when 21 Savage came to mind and these particular lyrics were used ALOT in my friend group as a joke. I've always liked to blend house and hip hop since I started producing so i feel this track represents my sound really well.
With ‘Bingetape Vol. 5’ dropping today, which track are you most excited for your fans to hear, and why do you think it will resonate with them?
The track I'm most excited about is “DON'T YOU WORRY”, mostly because ODB is my favorite rapper of all time. After making several different versions I wrote a bassline that both bangs in the club but also has bass guitar movement and texture, giving listeners a taste of a true “Binge bassline”. It's also the track with the most support and downloads from DJs all over the world, like Jamie Jones, CID and Dombresky to name a few.
You’re the founder of the artist collective ‘Blind Tiger’ and these branded parties became wildly popular in LA. Can you share a memorable moment from one of these events that perfectly captures the spirit of your vision?
We take pride in our carefully curated music showcases. We've been lucky to create memorable moments in different Los Angeles venues as well as other states and countries, but the most memorable moment for me would have to be at one at our Sound Nightclub events. It was my birthday and I was playing my first open to close set, with each hour being a different back to back besides the headlining hour, that I played an all original set for. We didn't end there… Once the event ended at 2am I continued to play 2:30 to 5am alongside more of my DJ friends at our after hours that we now call “Nightshift”.
You've electrified crowds at major festivals like EDC Las Vegas and Day Trip LA. How do these large-scale performances compare to your intimate after-hour sets at places like Sound Night Club and 1720 Warehouse?
My festival performances compared to club performances have more of a storyline and are more structured.I like to use vocals to communicate with the larger crowd to enhance my storytelling. Whereas when I'm in a more intimate environment I tend to read the room and freestyle more, as well as test out new IDs.
As you gear up to debut your house music live set with classic analogue drum machines and synthesizers, what can fans expect from this new live experience, and how does it differ from your DJ sets?
It's the closest I can come to replicating what I do at home when I'm producing, but this time in front of a live audience. Fans can expect BINGEWATCH LIVE to feature Roland boutique series 909, 808 and 606 drum machines. Along with heavy hitting 303 basslines and classic house cords from JU-06A commonly known as Juno synthesizer. I will be controlling all of my gear via midi and sending out vocals with a hardware sequencer/sampler by Akai called Force. Everything will be routed via the Pioneer V-10 mixer with an outboard delay pedal. No computer or CDJs will be used in this setup, it'll be a brand new experience for everybody whether they've seen me perform or not.
Thanks so much for talking to our audience! Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you all for your time. Catch me during my summer tour, dates and details are on my website!
