So, sit back and enjoy as Clan Brude talks to SIX AM.
What musical direction or theme are you most excited to explore in your upcoming projects for the new year, and why does it resonate with you?
I want to continue down the progressive side and plan to keep with contextualizing the music. That means I will either swing from producing one or two commercial tracks with longer, more in-depth productions with emotive feels. I also have a collaborator friend who’s interested in a jazz angle… so jazz-techno it is then!
As you enter the new year, what goals have you set for your music career, and how do you plan to work towards achieving them?
I’ve had two EPs out so far and I’m starting to think of an album. I think an album (and even an EP) is a different thought process than just banging out tracks. It needs to be cohesive, like a journey. I can’t promise it will happen, but it is certainly a goal. Otherwise, I just hope I continue to connect with my audience through the music.
Can you provide a glimpse into any specific releases or milestones we can expect from you in the early months of the new year?
I ended 2023 on a real high, with the release of the EP ‘Temporary Places’ followed by the single ‘Not Going Home’, both sum up my musical journey across the year.
Tracks I’m working on now are a little more mellow and include more live instrumentation so basically, it’s me experimenting a bit, but not too far removed from the usual Clan Brude melodic structure and will of course include some foot tappers.

Reflecting on your musical journey, what lessons from the past year do you intend to carry forward to ensure growth and success in the new year?
In terms of production, I want to continue with similar music themes with increased sophistication and tonal quality (trying to avoid the indulgence of over production!). I am perhaps in a production dilemma as to whether to continue in the same kind of templated way (due to relying on the production techniques I’m used to) or to try and break away from the mould. But I want to start doing more of the latter, keeping it very much more interesting for everyone involved.
Are there any new techniques, equipment, or software innovations you plan to incorporate into your music production process in the new year?
Ableton Live 12 comes out, so looking forward to playing with that. I plan to be using more live instrumentation in my productions, perhaps to create soundscapes or tonal drones or just simply sweet hooks.
Are there any artists you hope to collaborate with in the coming year, and what kind of creative synergy do you envision?
As mentioned, I have a collaboration in the works, which will bring in live instrumentation. There are a couple of tracks close to completion, so watch out for that collab soon. I would also love to work again with Ivy Marie who sang on ‘Not Going Home’.
How do you see your sound evolving in the new year? Are there any genres or musical elements you aim to incorporate or experiment with?
I’m still very much in the Progressive House genre pool, but with glimpses of Electro Pop with some big synths and pop melodies! I can see this continuing into 2024, perhaps becoming slightly darker and maybe bring in more instrumental sections. Even if I produce something more pop/mainstream, I still like to include a leftfield element. Think Locrian scales over strong topline melodies such as in ‘Not Going Home’.
How do you plan to manage your time and resources effectively to pursue your musical ambitions?
Great question! I always hope to spend as much time in my home studio that life allows, but this really does depend on life events. While music is much more than a hobby for me, it does take time. For instance. I am completing a master’s degree this year which eats into that valuable production time, but overall will become a source of inspiration. Having said that, once complete, I will certainly be able to reclaim time.
What do you hope your music will communicate or evoke in your listeners in the new year? Is there a particular message or emotion you wish to convey through your work?
I do tend to draw inspiration from life happenings. Last year, it was the lockdowns in Shanghai, which led to ‘Temporary Places’ coming out. This year I am playing with themes of change and impermanence (albeit not enforced as was the case of the lockdowns).
As you step into the new year, what are your overall aspirations as a DJ/Producer, and what impact do you hope to have on the Electronic music industry and your audience?
The connection with my audience is the main driver. It doesn’t mean much if no one connects. I believe I have a lot to offer ideas wise and as I shift over to more complex production, I hope those ideas are relatable. Industry wise, it’s been an interesting experience over the past year as I’ve had a couple of things signed but my EP and end of year banger never got signed. Just proves how subjective music is and perhaps suggests my music is a better fit for self-releasing on the whole.
