Reshaping the Rhythm: Kashovski on Reimagining ‘Slow Down’
The Paris-based producer discusses his tech-house evolution, the art of the remix, and keeping the soul of Meloko & Garla’s original.
Paris-based producer and DJ Kashovski returns with a fresh reinterpretation of Meloko and Garla’s track ‘Slow Down’. Renowned for his refined rhythm and evolving sound design, Kashovski preserves the emotional heart of the original while infusing it with his signature groove, dynamic movement, and club-ready energy.
Hi Kashovski! How are you?
I’m doing great, thank you! I’m always happy to talk about music and share what’s happening behind the scenes.
What was the first thing that caught your ear in Meloko & Garla’s original “Slow Down” and made you want to remix it?
What immediately grabbed me was the unique vibe Meloko & Garla created. I loved the atmosphere of the original, but it didn’t naturally fit into my sets. I felt there was potential to reshape it into something I could actually play on stage, while still respecting the essence of the track.
Which elements of the original track did you feel were essential to keep and which did you enjoy flipping?
For me, the vocals were cool and a bit old school. That’s the element I wanted to preserve. Everything else, I rebuilt from scratch. Essentially, I kept the voice and redesigned the entire musical landscape around it
How did you balance your signature sound with Meloko & Garla’s vibe?
I wanted to bring a warmer, groovier energy compared to the original, which had a more indie, introspective feel. My goal was to create something more dance floor driven and uplifting, while still keeping the emotion they had built.
What gears, plugins, or techniques did you use for this project?
The whole project was done in Ableton with Ableton gears mainly. I relied on automation to shape the dynamics and tension throughout the track, especially on the build-up. The bassline comes from Diva — I love the character and warmth it brings. Overall, it’s a simple setup, but one that works really efficiently.
How did the opportunity to remix “Slow Down” come about?
It came directly from Meloko. He had approached me before for another remix, but at that time I couldn’t find the right creative direction. With “Slow Down,” the inspiration clicked immediately, and we decided to jump straight into it.
How would you describe your signature sound, and how does this remix reflect it?
To be honest, I wasn’t completely sure how to categorize it at first, so I asked Meloko — and he said “Tech House.” So that’s what we went with. It’s definitely in that world: a groovy, energetic Tech House cut designed for the club.
Did you test the remix in your DJ sets before release? What did the crowd reactions tell you?
Yes, absolutely and the reaction has been amazing. The build-up leading to the second drop, especially with the bell automation rising, creates a huge moment. Every time I play it, the crowd goes wild. It’s one of the highlights of the set!
Where do you feel this remix sits within the current sound of the electronic music scene?
It’s actually a bit outside of what’s trending at the moment. The remix has a hybrid identity — it doesn’t fully align with the current wave or the dominant sounds in the scene right now, but that’s exactly what makes it interesting. Even if it doesn’t follow the moment’s trends, it turns out to be incredibly effective on the dance floor.
What’s next on your creative horizon? What can fans expect next?
You can expect a lot of groovy, House-driven music in the coming months. I’ve been working on tracks that really lean into rhythm and groove, music that feels natural in my sets and reflects where I want to go artistically.
With his remix of ‘Slow Down’, Kashovski demonstrates his evolving instinct for dancefloor dynamics and purposeful sound design, delivering a track that’s both forward moving and emotionally resonant.
