Boom Merchant Debuts on Elektrotribe with 'Operativo' EP
A Masterclass in High-Energy Techno: Exploring the Soundscapes of Ireland’s Mexico-Based Visionary
Boom Merchant drops his new three-track techno EP, Operativo, which is out now on Moog Conspiracy's record label, Elektrotribe.
Elektrotribe is an imprint that has primarily released Moog Conspiracy's own music, but it also champions other artists who share his innovative style of techno.
Hailing from Ireland, but currently based in Mexico, Boom Merchant’s style orientates around churning drums and intense basslines. His music is often characterised by memorable melodies, and quirky samples that give his tracks a standout sound.
Prior to this release, Boom Merchant has featured a remix on Elektrotribe, and this solo EP solidifies him as part of the label’s roster.
“Operativo” is first up, and it has a thick warping bassline that underpins an array of different vocal textures and filter swept melody parts. Next up, “Hang Time” is a game of two halves, as after a dubby opening, it evolves into a euphoric monster. “Inhale/Exhale” brings the release to a close, utilising a stripped back groove, consisting of a menacing bassline and percussive pops.
