Hi Lucinee thanks for participating in our mix series and talking to our audience, how are you?
Heyy, thank you very much for having me. I am doing great! Very busy working on new music.
You have a new EP out, could you walk us through the creative process behind it and what you hope people will experience while listening to it?
Yess, so my first release from 2024 is my 12” EP Pacemaker, out on Brvtalist S.R.
I worked on it for about 1.5 years in total, with a few breaks. In terms of the creative process - generally when I start a new track, I experiment, try things out and follow the idea I get at that moment. I don't produce specifically for labels, I'm always totally focused on myself and my feelings when I'm in the studio. I would say that this EP is a perfect mix of my signature styles, often with a trancey touch (more on the A side in this case) and also a bit rougher on the B side. The vocals are all recorded by me, except for the vocals on "Punch Box". For this EP I also got New Frames and Lifka on board. We're all close friends and kept sending each other the stems so that everyone could add their two cents and we perfected everything in a final session. Most of the drums in our track are from New Frames, most of the synths are from Lifka and I added the main vocals and processed the synths and generally kept everything a bit tidy and reduced. We basically did the arrangement all together - I think you can hear us all really well on the tune.
Berlin has long been considered a hub for electronic/techno music innovation. How has the city influenced your artistic journey and shaped your approach to techno, both as a DJ and a producer? Are there specific aspects of Berlin's culture or atmosphere that you find particularly inspiring or influential in your work?
I was born here and also currently live in Berlin, but at the time when I started DJing and making music, I was living in Hamburg. I was very active in the local DIY underground scene back then and I think that the atmosphere and vibe and my impressions of those early days still inspire me today. Of course, I also used to go to Berlin a lot back then to DJ or party, so it all blends together a lot. My friends have been my biggest inspiration at the time as well as my surroundings. I've always had a huge circle of friends who are producers and musicians, so there was always a lot of creative energy flowing around me. I discovered the techno scene in 2011-2012 and back then I was doing a lot of research and searching day and night for new music and developing my passion for it over the years. Back then, everything wasn't video-focused and that probably would have ruined it for me. No smartphones in clubs and music was the main focus. I hope that more and more clubs will abandon filming. It would improve the club experience for everyone and it's the only way to really lose yourself in the music. And it would create a more protected space. That doesn't exist otherwise, impossible with all the cameras in the crowd. I think people are missing out.
For this guest mix series, can you tell us what you hope our audience will feel? Did you have an idea where you wanted to go for this mix or did you just go with the flow on this one?
Put on the mix, relax, and let the music carry you into the sunrise. Or sunset ;->
