6AM Teams Up With r.Cups from r.World To Reduce Waste
Forefront of awareness and action in the environmental movement, climate change and single-use reduction since 1990.
We’re excited to team up with reusable r.Cups from r.World to reduce single-use waste starting next Friday, April 18th at WORK Harder Presents: Don Woezik, KETTING (LIVE) & Ønyx.
r.World, Born from 3 decades of sustainability experience and innovation, they’ve been at the forefront of awareness and action in the environmental movement, climate change and single-use reduction since 1990.
Why reuse? Single-use waste contributes greatly to climate change, water waste, toxins, and overflowing landfills. Together, we’re changing that. Here’s how it works:
1. Get reusable r.Cups with drinks.
2. Return cups to the clearly labeled Reuse Bins.
3. r.Cups are collected, sanitized, then used again & again & again. r.Cups can be used hundreds of times!
KEY FACTS:
● Live events send 4 BILLION single-use cups to the landfill every year ... in the US alone!
Together with r.World, we’re changing that.
● By using, then returning, these amazing cups, you’re not only making a positive climate action
that will impact our beautiful community ... but you’re also joining the global movement to
reduce waste, CO2 emissions, and overall climate impact.
● Please return cups to the clearly marked Reuse Bins when done. Returning them is key so that
we can keep reusing them. Each r.Cup can be used hundreds of times!
● Reuse for the health of our people and the planet. Our collective participation and impact
really adds up!
● Fun Fact: r.World’s reuse partners include global artists like Maggie Rogers, U2, Jack Johnson,
Dave Matthews Band, Billie Eilish, Rolling Stones and more, plus trailblazing cities, large sports
and music venues, live events, festivals, and now at WORK and RE/FORM EVENTS!
WHY REUSE?
● r.World has eliminated 16+ Million single-use cups and serveware items from going to landfill, incinerators or the environment and counting. They’ve prevented over 60 tons of plastic from being produced in the first place!
● Single-use waste has a big impact on climate change. It can lead to water waste, toxins, and
overflowing landfills.
● One trillion single-use foodware items are thrown away each year. That’s 9 million tons of
waste and over 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
● More than 4 BILLION single-use cups are thrown out every year (in the US, alone!) at live events.
● Every American throws away approximately 360 single-use cups each year. Almost 1 per day.
330 million Americans = 120 billion cups wasted.
● Each r.Cup and r.Ware container can be used hundreds of times, and are upcycled when done.
● Single-use is banned in some countries and even in some cities in the US. Reuse is the future.
● It takes less than 3 oz of water to wash an r.Cup compared to 66 oz to make a single-use cup.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the r.World program?
A: WORK & RE/FORM Events is reducing single-use waste by using reusable r.Cups from r.World. The reuse program is easy for everyone to participate - and make an impact.
Guests get r.Cups with drinks. When done, guests return cups to the clearly marked Reuse Bins. r.Cups are designed to be used hundreds of times but need to be returned (NOT thrown away or taken home!) to keep the reuse cycle going. They will be washed and used over and over, eliminating tons of waste.
Q: Where do I return r.Cups when I’m done?
A: When done, please return r.Cups to the clearly labeled Reuse Bins. You can return them at any time, and will need to do so before leaving.
Q: Is it safe to use (and reuse) r.Cups?
A: YES! The company’s reuse system includes commercial washing and sanitization. Reuse is food safe, protects public health, reduces CO2 emissions, stops single-use pollution and reduces waste.
Q: How and where does r.World wash its used cups/containers?
A: After cups are returned to the Reuse Bins, the r.World team picks up, washes, sanitizes, inspects and then repackages them for reuse. The LA-based r.World Wash Hub operates under all health department regulations and features the latest technologies from its partner, Ecolab - a world leader in planet-friendly sanitization.
Q: Can I just buy a cup without the drink?
A: r.Cups are not for sale. They are the property of 6AM Group, the same way cups are the property of a restaurant. They are being used as a solution to the single-use cups that would otherwise be used.
Q: Can I take this cup home with me?
A: No. Please return cups and lids to the clearly labeled Reuse Bins so they can be collected, washed and reused again. It’s important so that we can help keep r.World’s cycle of reuse going. Each r.Cup can be used hundreds of times!
Q: Wait, isn’t this cup plastic? How is this helping?
A: r.Cups are made of #5 Polypropylene plastic which is high quality, durable, food safe, BPA-Free, dishwasher safe, reusable, refillable and easily recyclable. Each cup can be used hundreds of times.
The continued reuse of these cups allows us to displace tons and tons of single-use waste. And, at the end of the day, any damaged cups are upcycled into items even cooler.
It is a closed loop system. We are using plastic to fight plastic!
