Italian DJ and producer Godzi, real name Michele Noschese, has died aged 35, his family have confirmed.
According to Italian news publication Il Mattino, the circumstances around Noschese’s death are currently being investigated, with authorities suspecting murder.
The Naples-hailing DJ is thought to have died on the night of Friday, July 18, or early morning on Saturday, July 19. No further details have been confirmed as of yet.
Il Mattino reports that Noschese’s family have requested a medical examination to determine his cause of death, while the case is followed up by the Italian consulate in Barcelona.
Noschese was born in Naples, Italy, where he played football for Napoli Primavera and studied Economics and Commerce before moving to Ibiza to pursue a career as a DJ and producer.
Under the alias Godzi, Noschese began making and playing music traversing house, tech house, and minimal, performing everywhere from the UK to Switzerland, with regular shows in Ibiza where he had reportedly resided for the past 10 years.
In an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Godzi’s father, former doctor Giuseppe Noschese, claimed: “Not a word from the Spanish media about Michele's case. I want the truth about what happened. The Guardia Civil contacted me only under pressure from the Spanish government."
On his relationship with his son, he explained: "We spoke constantly. Michele shared his nights out and his successes as a DJ with me and his mother almost in real time.”
“He'd called to tell us how happy he was to have performed a few nights earlier in Ibiza at one of the most famous clubs in the world. All I cared about, though, was hearing that he was okay,” he said.
