Lisbon venue Planeta Manas has been raided again.
The club, led by the collective mina and label Rádio Quantica, shared the news on Instagram last month, alleging that the raid occurred ahead of a December 20th event with body-positive party collective CURVS. Per the Planetas Manas team, police arrived without a court order, and threatened to conduct illegal searches outside the venue after being denied entry.
Planeta Manas' statement also said that, when a member of their team stood "peacefully" in front of a police van "to prevent them from leaving without any explanation," police charged at eight association members. One person was allegedly hit directly with a baton, while others were pushed back.
"This abuse of power does not surprise us," Planeta Manas' statement continued. "To the proto-fascist violence that we see growing in Portugal today, we respond with resistance and the defense of the diversity of cultural expression, which is our associative mission."
This is the second time in less than a year that police have raided Planeta Manas. In October 2024, the team reported a similar incident, wherein officers without warrants "forced their entry into our cultural association" under the guise of a routine inspection, conducting unlawful searches before shutting down the party.
