Here are Friz of Soul's top 5 inspirational tracks
I Hate Models - Werewolf Disco Club
I Hate Models is my biggest influence with my sound and has been since I started making techno. I pull inspiration from so many places, but hearing one of his unreleased songs is what truly inspired me to begin producing and DJing techno. Diving deeper into his catalog, this song struck me. The raw grittiness felt so genuine. It feels innovative, exciting, and energizing which I love. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times in person backstage at festivals. He is such a genuinely good person in real life. Sometimes you meet people who inspire you in real life for the first time, and they aren't who you perceived them to be. Meeting him and having a genuine down to earth conversation made me love him even more as an artist, and as a person. I could go on and on about his music. He really inspires my sound and productions.
SINDEX PREMIERE: KE:TR - Coffre Plein (Hardtrance Mix)
Every time I hear this song I think of the live set I played at Lehmann Club in Germany. Many claim this venue to be the top venue for techno in the south of Germany. Performing here was a pivotal point in my techno career for many reasons. Maik Helm reached out to me to book me for a show at Lehmann Club since he knew I'd be there for ADE. The lineup he sent me included Trancemaster Krause, Dallaniel, and Alina Viktoria, all incredible artists influenced by the European trance sound. At first, I told him that I didn't think my sound fully fit the style, even though I'd love to play at Lehmann Club. In America, trance music has a different feeling and meaning from what Europeans consider to be trance music. He was like, "no man trust me I think it will fit really well." This led to me playing the show and being introduced to a whole world of European trance. That night was such a special groundbreaking experience for me. I ended up playing the best set of my life at that point in my career, and the music was definitely fitting. I instantly fell in love with the European Trance sound, and have been incorporating more and more elements of it into my style.
Justice - Waters of Nazareth
JUSTIIIIIIICE. I've listened to Justice my whole life. Their distortion has always stood out to me and inspires me. So much so, that distortion is an element I intentionally put a lot of emphasis on in many of my productions. This song in particular when I think of Justice's distortion style strikes me. Pure energy and emotion through beautifully curated crushed sonic destruction. Justice's live sets are also incredible and inspiring. I chose this song purely because I love distortion and this is the embodiment of using distortion as a style.
Steve Angello - Shifter
I was OBSESSED with this song when I first found it in 2022. I felt the energy of it was so unapologetically authentic, raw, gritty, and cool. It inspired the level of production and feeling I look to achieve in my sound. I saw Swedish House Mafia play later that year in San Francisco at the Chase Center arena. It felt like the pinnacle of live production at the time and inspired me seeing what I believed true greatness to feel and sound like. I had so many car rides blasting this song, runs with this music blaring in my headphones, and it sparked the beginning of my wave of techno that was released in 2022 and started to get recognized by labels and event groups.
Trym - Millenium Pain (ナルト Mix) [TRYM007]
The opening of this track embodies the experimentation and flexibility of techno today. Techno can be so structured, yet so freeform. I love the blend of techno and trance elements in this track. It is so creative and doesn't follow any mold. I embody this mentality with every set that I perform. Creating an experience that is freeform, energizing, fresh, creative, exciting, and innovative.. that is beauty and art that is truly stimulating.
