Luis Miranda Takes Techno Into the Night with NOKTRON
Luis Miranda on NOKTRON, Creative Freedom, and the Power of Techno
Originally from Madrid and now based in Los Angeles, Luis Miranda has cultivated a vibrant style of techno defined by hypnotic tension, driving groove, and precision. His sets and productions on labels including SOMA, Truncate, Tronic, Illegal Alien, Planet Rythmn and KD RAW have earned support from Richie Hawtin, Luke Slater, Rødhåd, Truncate, Mark Broom, and many others.
Luis talks to 6AM on the cusp of the launch of NOKTRON, his own label dedicated to modern techno, blending hypnotic and driving grooves that hijack your body.
Hi Luis thanks for talking to 6AM! For those discovering Luis Miranda for the first time, you originally came from Madrid and are now based in Los Angeles, building a career with releases on labels like SOMA, Truncate, and Tronic. Take us back to the beginning. How did you first get involved with techno, and how have your experiences in Madrid and LA influenced the artist you've become today?
My love affair with electronic music started at 13, when I first walked into a club in Madrid and heard acid house. Those sounds blew my mind, but I was equally fascinated by the DJ, this mysterious figure who could control the energy of an entire dancefloor just by playing records.
I was hooked. I spent nights behind DJ booths, studying their moves and practicing at home. Over the years, I explored everything from acid house and EBM to hard trance, goa, house, electro, and techno, all of which shaped my musical identity.
Madrid gave me my musical education, roots, and love for club culture. I've always preferred the intimacy and energy of a packed club over massive venues or festivals.
LA marked another turning point. After years of DJing, LA was where I finally started producing music in 2017. It's also where I found my tribe, a community of DJs and producers who became good friends. Since then, I've been fortunate to release on labels I've admired for years and connect with artists and audiences worldwide.
From Madrid to LA, my sound has evolved, but two things have remained constant: my connection to the dancefloor and staying true to myself.
You've spent years releasing music through established labels, but 2026 marks a new chapter with the launch of your own imprint, NOKTRON. What made you decide that now was the right time to start a label, and what's the concept behind it?
Launching my own label has been on my mind for a while, and after nine years of producing music and releasing on labels I've admired, I felt ready for a new challenge. It felt like the right time to create my own platform, with the freedom to release music on my terms while supporting other artists.
The concept is very personal. I've always been a noctámbulo, someone who comes alive at night, drawn to its energy and mystery. I was even born on a Saturday night, so perhaps it was destiny!
NOKTRON comes from that nocturnal spirit and my fascination with techno's ability to bypass the brain, take control, and hijack the body. That feeling of losing track of time, completely immersed in the music and moving instinctively in communion with the crowd. Sometimes that's exactly what we need!
Musically, NOKTRON is rooted in hypnotic, driving, powerful techno with plenty of groove, but without being limited by formulas or subgenres. I want to encourage exploration and experimentation while staying true to the label's identity.
Beyond the music, I want to build something based on genuine human connections and collaboration. I've experienced how that personal connection can sometimes be missing when working with labels, and I want to make it a fundamental part of NOKTRON's DNA.

NOKTRON officially kicks off on October 23 with your own Mala Sombra EP. Being the first release, there's an opportunity to introduce people to what the label is all about. What's the story behind this EP, and why did you feel it was the right project to launch NOKTRON?
Launching with my own EP felt natural as I wanted to establish NOKTRON's musical identity firsthand and set the tone for what's to come.
Mala Sombra, which means "Bad Shadow" in Spanish, explores how darkness takes on a different meaning in techno. Rather than something to fear, it's where we find freedom, connect through music, and lose ourselves on the dancefloor. I wanted to capture that feeling with a grittier, more hypnotic energy than my usual productions, while keeping the groove that defines my sound.
I invited Lakej to remix Filosofal Night because I admire his work, and his sound fits perfectly with NOKTRON's vision.
Looking beyond your own releases, NOKTRON already has a VA compilation scheduled for November featuring artists like Ma Haiping, Lidvall, Procombo, and several others, followed by an EP from Skebo in January. When you're choosing artists to represent NOKTRON, what catches your attention? Are you looking for a particular creative mindset, or is it more about discovering something unexpected?
First and foremost, it's about the music. It has to fit NOKTRON's direction and excite me, whether it's something I'd play in my sets or a track that surprises me creatively or technically.
Second, the artist's creative vision. I value originality, personality, and a willingness to experiment and push boundaries, but the music still needs to move people on the dancefloor. Popularity and follower counts definitively matter less to me than the quality of the music and the artist behind it.
Third, the human connection. I want to get to know the person behind the music, even if it's just through a video call. For me, a label should be more than simply signing and releasing tracks.
Ultimately, I want NOKTRON to become a musical meeting point for like-minded producers, bringing together established and emerging talent from around the world.
Alongside launching the label, you've got shows coming up in Portland for Halloween, opening for Adriana Lopez, followed by Madrid and Toronto. With so much happening on both the music and label side, what are you most excited about heading into the next few months?
Quite a few things! I'm looking forward to opening for Adriana Lopez, an artist I admire as both a DJ and producer. Sharing the decks with her will be special.
On the production side, I'm especially excited about an upcoming collaboration with David Meiser. He's an artist I really respect, and we're on the same wavelength creatively and energetically. I'm really happy with what we've created and can't wait to share it!
And of course, I'm excited to see NOKTRON take its first steps, grow, and welcome more like-minded artists into the NOKTRON family.
And looking further ahead, what would make you feel that NOKTRON's first year was a success?
First of all, making it to the first anniversary! (laughs). Launching a label is one thing, but building something sustainable is another challenge.
I'd love to see artists I admire playing NOKTRON tracks, receiving great demos from established and emerging producers, and having a solid release schedule for year two.
Above all, I want NOKTRON to build a reputation as a label where artists want to release and techno lovers discover exciting music. Quality over quantity is my philosophy.
If we can achieve that while building genuine relationships, I'll consider the first year a success. And who knows, maybe we'll even start releasing vinyl!
