Romanian-born DJ and producer Audio State is proving to be an intrinsic name within the next generation of rising techno stars, with a rich catalogue of high-impact records to his name. Having only been active on the circuit for a few years, the burgeoning talent has already graced some of the most influential labels in the scape, including Terminal M, Elevate Records, Unrilis, Legend Records, and Extima Records, to name a few. Championing an adaptable blend of melodic-driven, peak-time techno alongside raw, hypnotic cuts, Audio State’s boundless creativity is setting him on a path to dance music royalty.
Launching his career in the tech-house sphere, Audio State saw huge success under his preceding aliases before maturing his sound palette into a harder and faster strain of underground music. Now standing as one of Romania’s most promising components, Audio State’s deserving reflection from fellow DJs has ensured his elevation to even greater heights in the last two years, with his productions proving commonplace among the touring playlists of Adam Beyer, Sam Paganini, Enrico Sangiuliano, Joyhauser, Pig & Dan, Thomas Schumacher, Joseph Capriati, and Sama Abdulhadi, to name a few. With notable footholds inside Beatport’s Peak-time Top 100 chart and Hype section with every single one of his releases, the producer’s flourishing discography only grows to hold more future hit records.
Audiostate talks to SIX AM about his newest release of Hans Zimmer's Interstellar which is now available as a free download.
Hi Audiostate! Thanks for joining us at SIX AM. How are you?
Hey guys! Thank you for the invitation. I'm doing well and I'm thrilled that this edit is finally coming out. I can't wait for everyone to hear it!
Before you moved onto your current techno sound you produced tech house music. How did your early experiences in the tech-house sphere influence your current sound as Audio State?
I've been producing tech house music for about 6-7 years. Back then, it was all about the groove and swing, and the energy of that genre was truly infectious. These elements have stayed with me throughout my musical journey, and I've always strived to incorporate them into my tracks. I can confidently say that my musical background has been shaped by these elements in some ways. Although techno music is more straightforward, i think that i always manage to capture that energy and bring it forward to the people.
You decided to release a remix of Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar track. What drew you to this for your new techno edit? How did you approach the remix to be faithful to both your own style of techno while paying homage to the original?
My journey with this particular soundtrack began in 2018 when I initiated this project called Audio State. Given my deep fascination with space and the universe, it's no surprise that Interstellar is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi movies. After watching the film and being captivated by Hans Zimmer's soundtrack, I decided that my very first track would be a techno-flavored edit of this iconic soundtrack.
Fast forward five years, I felt it was time for a new interpretation of this legendary soundtrack, which led to the creation of the second version. In approaching this project, I aimed to craft a bigroom, high-energy track that could also evoke powerful emotions in listeners. I believe these emotions stem from the original melodies composed by Hans Zimmer.
Can you tell us more about the evolution of your sound over the past five years and how it's reflected in your latest edit of Hans Zimmer's Interstellar soundtrack?
Over the past five years, my sound has undergone a significant evolution. I started with melodic and trance-infused techno, gradually transitioning towards darker, more industrial, and raw vibes. Currently, I wouldn't say I've pinpointed my exact sound because I genuinely adore all aspects of techno, whether it's melodic, hypnotic, or any other subgenre. With my latest edit, I ventured back to my roots, creating a track that's incredibly melodic, yet also driving and epic, much like the original soundtrack. Undoubtedly, one of the most influential figures on my musical journey has been Enrico Sangiuliano, one of my favorite artists. His impact is clearly evident in this edit.
As I delve deeper into different styles and experiment with diverse influences, my sound is ever-evolving. This journey of musical self-discovery is ongoing, and I embrace it fully. While I may eventually define a distinct and recognizable style, I'll continue to explore and push boundaries, knowing that my music will continue to evolve and grow alongside my artistic development.
You mentioned that your new Interstellar edit is a free download to show gratitude to your supporters. What made you decide to do this? How important is the connection with your fans in your musical journey, and what kind of feedback are you hoping to receive from them regarding this release?
I believe that in life, no matter what you do, there comes a point when you need to give something back – whether it's to your loved ones, coworkers, or even a stranger. The connection I have with my fans is incredibly meaningful because, without their support, I might not exist as an artist. They are the ones who follow and listen to my music.
That's why I wanted to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me over the years. I hope this track brings a smile to the face of anyone who listens to it or perhaps stirs a positive emotion in someone who needs it.
You’ve already received such great support for this edit from artists such as Victor Ruiz, Bart Skills, Joyhauser, and Adam Beyer. Has this influenced your future tracks and productions in any way?
It's always an incredible feeling to receive support from these industry legends because it signifies that you're on the right path, and hearing your track played on big stages around the world is a surreal experience. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Victor Ruiz for playing my track at Tomorrowland this summer.
Honestly, I believe that everything that happens to you, whether good or bad, influences your music. In this case, being recognized by these legends has inspired me to work even harder than before to pursue my goals.
Thanks so much for taking the time with us. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I also have a very special release coming up at the end of the year, which I can confidently say is the biggest moment of my entire career. It's going to be on a prestigious label that I've dreamt about releasing on since I started producing techno music. Stay tuned for more exciting news!
Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for inviting me to this interview. It's been a pleasure sharing my journey and thoughts with you.
