Hailing from Dundee, Scotland, KIMMIC has rapidly ascended the electronic dance music scene. With their infectious debut single "Never Miss a Beat," the duo ignited a fervent fanbase and sold-out shows across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. Their meteoric rise is underscored by over 25 million streams, a global audience in 174 countries, and a coveted BBC Radio 1 Hottest Record. As 2024 unfolds, KIMMIC's momentum shows no signs of abating, with a fresh wave of music on the horizon, including their highly anticipated release on Armada, "No Come Down".
Today, KIMMIC joins 6AM to discuss their chart-topping hits, upcoming music, and the story behind their dynamic duo.
Hi KIMMIC, Thanks for talking to 6am how are you both doing?
Thanks for having us, very well thank you! Tired but having fun!
How did you both come together as a duo? Can you share a bit about your history and how you started making music together?
Chris had to put on an event as part of his university course and I (Keiran) was one of the DJ’s on the event, so we kept in touch from then and a couple of years later we started KIMMIC.
You’ve had some impressively fast growth with over 25 million streams and listeners in 174 countries, how does it feel to know your music resonates with such a diverse, global audience?
Great of course, it’s pretty surreal to think that many people have listened to something that’s came out of our small studio set up.
What do you think makes your sound stand out?
I feel our sound has lots of energy and that’s what dance music is all about in our opinion, I think we blend old sounds & new sounds really well.
What was your reaction when you heard your record was named the BBC Radio 1 Hottest Record? How has this impacted your journeys as artists?
Was awesome of course, we remember tuning in and it was a great feeling. Wouldn’t say it has impacted our career much, but was obviously a great thing to have!
Tell us about your collaboration with house legend Ultra Nate on "Party Girl" releasing on Armada. How did this partnership come about, and what was the creative process like?
So our Label Armada music took over a catalogue called King Street Music and the original Ultra Nate track was in it, so we had a go at the vocal, posted a preview on TikTok and it got a big buzz so we ended up bringing it out as a collaboration with Ultra Nate.
You have a new single coming up on Armada - what can you tell us about this one?
‘No Come Down’ is our first single which has original vocals so it’s a special one for us. Our three other singles have been created using samples, so it’s definitely been a different challenge but we're really happy with how it's turned out. Reactions have been incredible so far and we're back on Armada who have been so supportive of us and our music, so it's all coming together really well. Can't wait to have more people hear it!
Aside from the next single, 2024 seems packed with new music for you. Can you give us a sneak peek into what fans can expect from your upcoming releases? Any surprises in store?
A lot of original music! This is something we are heavily focused on for the rest of 2024 and 2025.
Thanks so much for talking with us. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
All good, thanks for having us!
