Coordinates Feat. Kander
Check out the 5 songs that guided the sound of Kander!
Kander emerges from Manchester’s underground with a hard techno style shaped by sharp grooves and a clear artistic focus. First introduced as a duo before becoming Alex’s solo project, Kander began with the “RKR1” EP on R-Label Group and early highlights like The Warehouse Project. Since stepping out on his own, Alex has kept the project moving with releases such as “Jungle VIP” and the vinyl and digital series “R002,” along with appearances at TeleTech’s Boiler Room stage and Parklife. Today, Kander continues to carve his path with a sound that reflects his roots and his steady, deliberate evolution.
In this installment of Coordinates, Kander tells us the top 5 tracks that guided his sound.
Alloy Mental - Fire [Chris Liebeing Remix]
This track was the fans favourite in the early stages of my career I remember the first few times playing it and the breakdown would cause absolute damage on the dance floor. Every now & then it will creep back into my sets but only on very special occasions but even how old it is it really stands out in the club.
Mala - Miracles [Commodo Remix]
One of my friends picked this up as a white label from eastern bloc & the track honestly blew me away I think I’ve sampled it hundreds of times. The unique sound palette & the insane bass gets me every time.
Roberto Rodriguez - 6th Non Sense
This was my first record, picked up in the 50p Bargain Bin at the Legendary Picadilly Records in Manchester. This was got me obsessed with vinyl & why I love to release my music on vinyl. I was 16 years old not really into house music, I had no business owning this record yet I discovered an incredibly artist that led to me delving further into house music & eventually into techno.
James Ruskin - Dependant Stage
Leading on from the last one once I was getting a bit more curious about techno I went to Eastern Bloc & asked the local legend Means&3rd for some recommendation he really listened to what I was into & gave me some insane recommendations this being the first one.
Rikhter - Phnom Enhah
Sometimes when you hear a record for the first time you you not only remember how it made you felt but you remember where you were, who you were with almost like it was yesterday and this one of those. I can’t think of an artist that’s had more of an impact in my music than Rikhter. For me he’s always him self and always innovating and that’s a very rare & inspiring thing to see in this scene.
Expect to see Kander on 21 NOV - SXTCY - Los Angeles and 22 NOV - Blackroom - Miami.
Kander's release ‘Rules Of The Dance’ is confirmed to go out on Teletech on the 12th December.
