Cultural Rhythm and Dancefloor Energy: Inside Mozambo’s Latest Collaboration
Redefining the Afro-House Landscape with Mozambo
French duo Mozambo team up with Maz (BR) on No Embalo da Vila, a new tribal-inflected afro house single out now on Dawn Patrol. Known for blending Afro-house, disco and deep rhythmic energy, Mozambo have refined their sound into a hypnotic peak-time groove that feels rooted and expansive.
No Embalo da Vila rides on evocative guitar motifs and chugging drums, anchored by a vocal that channels joy and movement across the arrangement. The track takes inspiration from classic Brazilian musicality, bridging electronic intensity with enduring cultural warmth.
The release features participation from Martinho da Vila, one of Brazil’s most revered samba composers and vocalists, whose legacy stretches back to the golden era of samba and MPB, bringing a depth of heritage to the record. Da Vila’s contribution adds historical resonance beneath the track’s forward-looking production.
Joining the collaboration is Maz (BR), a Brazilian DJ/producer and founder of the Dawn Patrol label. Maz has helped shape contemporary Afro-house with a catalogue of Beatport chart-topping releases and a global touring presence, infusing the track with his own perspective on samba-informed electronic music.
No Embalo da Vila marks a meeting point of worlds: Mozambo’s cross-continental house sensibilities, Da Vila’s deep samba tradition, and Maz’s Brazilian club influence. It’s a rhythmic statement built for both dance floors and wide-ranging playlists, celebrating the dynamism of Afro-influenced electronic music today.
Rather than chasing novelty, this remix leans into continuity: a conversation between generations, scenes and sensibilities. It is a record that trusts its source material and the musicians behind it, and in doing so, feels quietly powerful.
Hi Mozambo! Thanks for talking to 6AM how are you?
Hi 6AM, thank you so much for having us. We’re really happy to be speaking with you today. We’re doing very well, thanks.
For someone who has never heard the name Mozambo before, how would you describe what people actually experience when they listen to your music? Not genre tags, not press language. What does a Mozambo release or set actually feel like in real time?
When people listen to our music or come to one of our sets, what we really try to create is a positive vibe. It’s about bringing people together, making them feel good, happy and connected.
Our music can be uplifting and motivating, but overall it’s about energy, dancing, sharing and love. It’s centered around that feeling of unity on the dancefloor. In a way, it goes back to what house music has always meant to us, a music that brings people together.
Your latest release “No Embalo da Vila” brings together you two, Maz, and Martinho da Vila. That’s three different creative backgrounds intersecting. What did that collaboration actually look like in practice? Were you building around something that already existed, or did the record evolve once everyone’s talents entered the room?
The collaboration started from our love for Martinho da Vila. We wanted to create a version that could work for Carnaval, something that would connect samba directly with a club energy so we could play it in our DJ sets.
It was also a continuation of our journey with Brazilian music and all the remixes and influences we’ve been exploring. We began working on an initial idea and sent it to Maz, who immediately loved it. From there, we started exchanging parts and building the track together.
It was a real back-and-forth process. We met in Rio at one point and then continued working remotely while we were all in different parts of the world. He re-recorded the guitars with an artist from Rio, and once we got the clearance and the approval from Martinho da Vila and the label, everything came together.
It was a great team effort and we’re very happy with the result. It’s a track we love listening to and playing, especially around Carnaval.
You two are known for some globally supported Afro House tracks such as “AYA” and “Dia de Sol”. How does “No Embalo da Vila” continue your take on the genre and how does it differ from past releases? Since it’s already out, have you seen the same global support as with your previous work?
With this new track, we’re continuing the same essence as our recent releases, which is the fusion between Brazilian music and house, especially Afro house. That’s a core part of our identity.
Working with Maz, who fully represents that sound and that culture, made the collaboration feel very authentic and organic. It also follows the direction of our latest projects, many of which have been connected to Brazilian artists, including our recent remix with Maz for Gilberto Gil.
This track fits perfectly into that journey and into the energy of Carnaval, which is something we’re very happy about.
This release comes out on Maz’s imprint Dawn Patrol. What made that the right home for this record rather than your own imprint Jungle Disco? Was it about the audience, the creative alignment, the relationship with Maz, or something else entirely? Did the release platform influence the sound of the track at all?
Releasing the track on Dawn Patrol felt very natural to us. It’s a deeply Brazilian record, so it made sense to put it out on a Brazilian label. Culturally, artistically and in terms of audience, everything was aligned.
It’s Maz’s label and since he’s part of the collaboration, it felt like the right home for the project. For this kind of track, it was important for us to keep it connected to Brazil and to the people who are directly part of that culture.
We saw it as a way of paying respect to Brazilian music by releasing it within a Brazilian ecosystem, with Brazilian artists.
Speaking of your guys’ label, Jungle Disco began just about a year ago in 2025. With that experience under your belt, what have been some lessons learned as a newer label owner? Has having the label shifted your mindset or even style of music? What are you hoping to do with the label as time goes on?
Launching our label has given us the possibility to release music whenever we feel it’s the right moment, without depending on anyone else. That brings a lot of artistic freedom. We have more control and we can follow our own direction.
We’re still very happy to work with other labels, but it was important for us to have our own space where we can release what we want, when we want, take risks, change direction and reinforce our identity.
It’s also a new role for us, a new way of thinking about music and about the project as a whole. For now, our focus is on releasing our own music and shaping the label step by step. We also want to continue developing Jungle Disco through small pop-ups and experiences in France and Brazil. It’s something very positive for us and we’re excited to keep building it.
Thank you so much for taking the time. Is there anything else you both would like to add?
Thank you so much for the interview, we really enjoyed the conversation. We invite everyone reading this to listen to our music on all platforms and to come see us play if they get the chance.
For those who can’t make it to a show, we’ll be releasing monthly mixes on SoundCloud, so there will always be new music to discover.
At the end of the day, we’re here to share our passion, our music and good moments with people. We hope to see you on the dancefloor somewhere around the world.
