Pretty Pink: Storytelling Through Sound.
From the Forest to the Floor with Pretty Pink
With a string of powerful releases and standout festival sets around the globe, Pretty Pink has solidified her place as one of melodic house and techno’s most captivating voices. This summer, the German DJ and producer returns to the US for a highly anticipated performance at Electric Forest in Michigan, bringing her signature blend of emotional depth and dancefloor energy to the woods. And Electric Forest is just the beginning — with many more US dates lined up throughout the year, 2025 is already shaping up to be a landmark chapter in her journey.
In this exclusive interview, she opens up about the inspiration behind her latest single Backstage, her recent collaboration with Einmusik, the evolution of her Deep Woods Vision label, and what keeps her creatively fueled on the road. We also get a glimpse into what’s ahead — and why, for Pretty Pink, music remains one of the most powerful forms of connection.
Pretty Pink, you're returning to the U.S. this summer for Electric Forest in Michigan – a festival known for its immersive vibe. What are you most looking forward to?
I’ve heard so many magical things about Electric Forest – the atmosphere, the woods, the people. It’s not just a music festival; it’s a full experience. Playing there feels like a dream come true. I'm really looking forward to connecting with a crowd that’s open to emotional, melodic journeys and to bringing some deep, powerful energy to the forest. There’s something special about playing in nature. It brings me full circle with my roots.
Your latest single Backstage has been making waves. What story were you aiming to tell with this one?
Backstage is all about the duality of the club experience – the rush, the intimacy, the mystery behind the curtain. There’s this line: “Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go backstage.” It’s playful but also layered. Musically, I wanted to create a track that builds tension slowly, then lets it explode. Lush synths, crisp percussion, a teasing vocal hook – it’s meant to capture that 4am energy when the real magic happens behind the scenes.
Your recent collab with Einmusik, “Midnight,” has been getting a lot of attention. How did that come together?
Einmusik and I had been talking about working together for a while. We both love rich textures and emotional arrangements, so it felt natural. Midnight was born during a very spontaneous session – we just followed the vibe, layering moody synths, ethereal vocals, and this hypnotic groove that builds over time. It’s one of those tracks that feels both introspective and explosive, depending on when you hear it. Seeing how people responded to it on tour was amazing.
You’ve built a reputation for crafting these powerful, melodic journeys. What does storytelling through music mean to you right now?
It means everything. A set or a track isn’t just about beats – it’s about guiding people through emotions, memories, and moments of release. I try to create contrasts – light and dark, tension and softness, clarity and mystery. That’s where the real magic happens. Especially in times like these, I feel people are craving connection, and music is the language that cuts through everything else.
From your roots in the Harz region of Germany to global stages – what’s something that’s surprised you most on this journey?
I think what surprises me is how personal the global can feel. I started DJing in a small town, surrounded by forests, and now I’m playing for thousands of people around the world. But the emotion behind the music hasn’t changed. Whether it's a packed festival stage or an intimate club, the goal is always the same – to move people. That simplicity is powerful, and I never take it for granted.
You’ve rebranded your second label recently – tell us more about Deep Woods Vision.
Yes! I recently transformed my second imprint, which was called Wanderlust, into Deep Woods Vision. It’s a natural evolution – a new chapter for the label and a reflection of my sound's growth. It’s not just a home for my own productions, but also a launchpad for emerging and in-demand artists who share a similar musical ethos. Think of it as a creative space for the deeper, more forward-thinking side of melodic music.
A lot of producers struggle with staying inspired during constant travel. How do you keep that creative flame lit?
It’s all about finding small moments. A sunrise at the airport, a strange sound in a hotel hallway, a brief chat with a fan – these things inspire me. I journal a lot on the road, take voice notes, and sketch ideas on my laptop whenever I can. Inspiration isn’t always about big studio sessions – sometimes it’s about paying attention to the little shifts in mood, energy, and environment.
Lastly, what’s next for Pretty Pink in 2025 – musically or otherwise?
2025 is shaping up to be exciting. More original releases are on the way – including some that really push the edge of my sound. I’m planning new Deep Woods showcases and more U.S. tour dates. Also, a few special collaborations are in the pipeline, but I can’t reveal too much just yet. Let’s just say… the journey continues, and I’m more inspired than ever.
