The Power of "LFG!" in Alex Cordova's Electrifying Drive
Beyond a Catchphrase: How 'LFG!' Fuels Alex Cordova's High-Energy Techno Vision
"Let's Fucking Go!" It’s not just a catchphrase—it’s the electrifying mantra that defines Alex Cordova’s approach to music and life. Known for his high-energy sets and his ability to make any crowd feel the pulse of his rhythm, Alex’s journey has taken him from the small town of Jackson, Wyoming, to the underground rave scene in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born with roots in Tlaxcala, Mexico, Alex's musical evolution began in house parties and local bars before expanding to major festivals and underground shows. His eclectic mix of Trance, Hardstyle, House, and now, Hardgroove and Hypnotic Techno, has helped define his signature sound, a sound that resonates not only with local audiences but with a growing global community.
As a co-founder of the LFG! Collective, Alex is committed to bringing the underground rave culture back to life, blending cinematic elements into the techno landscape while creating a unique connection between artist and audience. Now, as he prepares for a highly anticipated performance at Triceradrops and the release of his new EP on Mal-function, Alex sat down to discuss his evolution, his vision for the future of Utah's techno scene, and the passion driving his career forward.
Today Alex Cordova talks to 6AM about his catchphrase, upcoming events, the scene, and the evolution of his sound!
Hi, Alex Cordova Thank you for taking the time to talk with us at 6AM Group. How's life treating you right now?
Hey! It’s honestly an honor to sit down and talk to the 6AM group!
Honestly couldn’t be more blessed with everything that has been happening lately, from my career to some personal things. Just a little nervous about the interview, don’t get these too consistently!
Alex, your catchphrase "Let's Fucking Go!" has become a signature part of your sets. Can you tell us how this phrase came about and why it resonates so deeply with both you and your audience during your performances?
More than glad to tell you about this, because honestly, this resonates with one of my favorite artists and inspirations which is the legend Carl Cox! His iconic “Oh Yes Oh Yes!” that’s what made it for me and that’s how I started using the “Let’s Fucking Go!” In my sets or more as I like to say a modern twist! But when this catchphrase always hits, the euphoria just strikes the audience and me at the same time. Because when I used to be in the crowds that energy would always reach out a lot with the crowd and from then on. Never stopped using it in my sets and it’s my signature trademark!
You're set to play for Triceradrops on March 22nd, and you also have an EP dropping on Mal-function on May 23rd with a release date of June 6th. What can fans expect from this new EP, and how does it reflect your journey as an artist from your early days to now?
I’m only stoked to play for Triceradrops, love some Psy Trance! We need more of that out in Utah it’s one if not a niche or underappreciated subgenre! Either way, I’ll be playing my signature Techno sounds and of course, dropping a lot of Cordova originals!
Honestly, when it comes to releases I’m always so nervous to announce it, but at the end of the day, I just love how these tracks turn out. Lately, I’ve been expressing music as painting a canvas, I feel like a lot of people forget, that many of the songs we produce, compose, and write down need to always have a story behind them. It doesn’t matter how deep it is but it has to have a story behind it. I feel that’s when a song has a soul behind it!
I’ve been evolving with my sound consistently I always like to say it’s pushing Techno beyond its limits. Especially using a lot of old-school sounds and merging new ones! Of course, this features more of my Latino roots rhythm on it. You will not be disappointed with these new songs, which by the way I got more releases coming out in future months!
Also, shout out to Jake Duval (owner of the record label) for letting me be part of the label and letting me sign my releases!
You’ve evolved through a variety of sounds, from Trance and Hardstyle to now focusing on Hardgroove and Hypnotic Techno. How has this musical transition shaped your identity as an artist, and how do you feel these genres represent your journey?
It’s funny and weird how that worked because I love my fast and melodic music, but there was a point where I couldn’t see myself producing these subgenres anymore. Don’t get me wrong I still drop some Trance classics in my sets (spoiler alert love to drop old Tiesto on my sets!) But I also did some Tech House, one of the recent transitions was leaving Hard Techno and Neo Rave, I did a farewell to Neo Rave specifically back on November 23rd of 2024. Especially because I think it started lacking soul, and direction and it started getting too repetitive.
From then on, I started going back to my roots and what was that? Techno has always been there for me when I go out to all of these underground events. The community has always been welcoming, the music has always been so subtle and cinematic. Especially the history that it has with the founding people of this beautiful subgenre “the Bellville three”! Now with this founded sound, I feel like I always have creative freedom and something I identify with, and honestly, the audience has been receptive to it, because it brings out the more genuine and counterculture guy I am! This is the genre that I can look into for years and decades beyond without losing love to it!
You've been a key figure in the underground scene, especially with your involvement in local Utah venues and co-founding LFG! Collective. What’s your vision for the future of the underground rave culture in Utah, and how do you plan to help it evolve moving forward?
Working my way to the underground scene has always been a goal of mine. Because that’s where I see more of the freedom on the dancefloor, the smiles, the euphoria, the cinematic views, and especially people dancing like no one is watching, the intimate sets, people that want to listen to music that’s unexpected!
There’s been a division between the underground and the mainstream of things and they are two different types of mentalities. For us, the underground has been more of a safe space, where people can express who they want to be, and who want to forget about their daily life, about their problems. Where the community can gather and smile together and live together for the dawn of a new day. That for me is what is beautiful about the underground, that’s why we are fighting for our spot and for it to be respected that goes for the proper venues, the promoters, the DJs, and the music!
Carl Cox mentioned this recently in one of his tweets!
The underground is still in its early stages, but unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are trying to capitalize on this and do it for the wrong reasons. That’s why as an artist, me is always sending out a message through music and creating a proper underground movement. Where there can be a proper community and proper promoters who are doing it for the right reasons instead of looking for instant cash grabs!
For me, I’m trying to get my music not only reach to the state that I’m currently based on right now but to different parts around the world, where I can help a lot of artists and open doors for more music and especially a safe spot where we can all gather together and dance like there’s no tomorrow!
With your unique blend of hard energy and rhythmic sounds, you’ve been making waves in the local music scene. What do you see as the next big step for your career, and how do you plan to connect with a wider audience while staying true to your roots?
As I would always say “trust the process” it takes time, effort, and many sacrifices to where you wanna be and see yourself!
The next big steps are getting more releases out of the state and making my music reach a wider audience through outside record labels and just keep pushing myself on every show and keep reinventing new and fresh sounds for each set! Also, I see myself playing bigger shows and more out-of-state shows!
The only way that you can stay true to your roots is by never losing genuine love for this music especially every set that I create uniquely for every show and always integrating more of my Latino roots and sounds to my songs! Because they always remind me of my parent's home down in Mexico and it will always remind me of where I came from, how I started, and where I will be heading towards the future! I want to show this knowledge to the community and the more I can share it the only thing that waits for us is a brighter future!
Thank you for sharing your story with us! Is there anything else you like to share before signing off?
A pleasure, I was dreaming of doing one of these interviews for 6AM and it finally came true!
Either way, I just want to give a shoutout to all my friends, family, and fans who have seen me grow through this journey, if it weren’t for all of you, I wouldn’t be where I would be!
And like always “Let’s Fucking Go!”
Thank you and it’s been a pleasure!
