Cesar Almena is a Spanish techno producer whose new album, Techno Influences features 10 hardgroove tracks with jackin’ rhythms.
The release comes via CODE Records which is a record label that Cesar Almena runs alongside Nuke, and together they also co-founded the CODE events that take place at Fabrik in Madrid.
CODE events run with huge line-ups that would rival a medium sized festival, as they often include multiple headliners for both the big room and underground sides of techno. They regularly book everyone from Blawan to Adam Beyer.
CODE Records is an extension of the event, and the imprint often signs music from the international artists who have been booked to play DJ sets. Christian Smith, Gary Beck, Mark Broom and Ken Ishii, are just a few examples from the imprint’s roster.
This is the third album Cesar Almena has released via CODE Records, and it opens with the acid synths of “ZaPaTiLLa.” It then settles into the percussive groove of “Porto,” which leads into the jackin’ synth rhythms of “Advent.” Next in line, “Alive” introduces some poignant synth cords that add an emotive vibe to the upbeat percussion.
“Ekho” changes the mood with the menacing intensity of its acid line and soulful vocal snippets, then “Alone” is signified by fast-paced drum patterns. “I'm So the Sure” has intense vocal stabs, and “Eh Oh” has classic synths combined with feel-good chants.
“Bombeo” is the penultimate track, and it has an explosive groove that brings the release to a final peak of energy, before “Knights of the Groovy” closes the album with an emotive hands in the air vibe.
