Plan G is a new 13-track dark and dystopian techno album by Component, who is an Irish artist living in London, UK. This album has hard-hitting percussion and intense analogue synths at its core, but also incorporates vocals with uplifting tones.
Component is self-releasing this album via his namesake record label, but he has also featured music on other esteemed record labels including ITU and Archivio 01. This album has quite a unique and distinctive sound, which predominantly comes from the combination of euphoric vocals contrasting with the bleak and dystopian backing tracks.
Not all of the tracks have vocals, as most of them are dubs utilising intense synth lines and fast-paced percussion that is ideal for a dance floor. The vocal tracks break up the release, and sound like they could have been influenced by underground ‘90s trance.
The dub tracks such as “Detroit Fairground”, “Are We Dreaming?”, “On Rotation” and “Dusk,” range between raw and industrial techno, and have led to the release gaining support from DJs such as Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing and Slam.
Tracks like “With Me” and “Your Hidden Light” have euphoric vocals and uplifting melodies layered with heavy techno percussion and dark atmospherics.
There is also the penultimate track “Anarchy in the IRE” which has an old-school breakbeat adding a nostalgic vibe to the release.
